Triple7 BioConcentrate Eiminates Algae and Oil Build Up at NSW Ocean Baths

Algae and oil build up is a regular issue at the New South Wales Ocean Baths, which necessitates regular cleaning and maintenance. Triple7 BioConcentrate was used in a test clean to dissolve the unsightly build up at both Merewether and Newcastle ocean baths and gave excellent results.

Ocean baths are public seawater pools that are popular with the community and situated along the coast so that waves can bring water into the pool.

The Situation

The NSW Council staff closely monitors the cleanliness of the facilities because human interaction, weather and environmental conditions contribute to algae growth in the ocean baths, which necessitates regular cleaning and maintenance.

The Challenge

Achieving a balance between the availability and cleanliness of the ocean baths is paramount. Water quality and temperature, as well as usage, affect the cleanliness of the pools, and unsightly build-up of algae growth on the walls in the splash zone is a regular issue.

This is the bathing areas prior to cleaning. There is algae and organic build up on the surface.

The Solution

Triple7 BioConcentrate was used to clean both Merewether and Newcastle Ocean Baths. For both cleans, a mixture of one part Triple7 BioConcentrate and five parts water was placed in a spray bottle. One coat of the mixture was sprayed onto the areas and left for three minutes, after which, the areas were pressure cleaned to restore the walls to a clean and algae-free surface.

The Outcome

Merewether Ocean Baths

  • The floor area after cleaning by spraying on Triple7 BioConcentrate solution and light scrubbing.
  • Note the cleaner floor area next to the wall.
  • Continued use will prevent the organic material from adhering to the surface and reduce opportunity for algae to grow, resulting in reduced labour and cleaning over time.

Newcastle Baths

  • The wall area after cleaning by dipping a cleaning brush into a bucket of Triple7 BioConcentrate solution and lightly scrubbing.
  • Note the dark algae/oil build up has dissolved on the tested area on the left, compared to the darker film of organic build up on the adjacent wall.
  • Residue of the Triple7 BioConcentrate liquid after cleaning off the dissolved organics. The product is certified as safe for use in aquatic areas, so can be left to soak into the sand or be washed out to sea.

Triple7 BioConcentrate will reduce the opportunity for organic material to adhere to the surface, resulting in reduced opportunity for algae to grow. Therefore, there will also be a reduced need for multiple manpower scrubbing the surface, reducing cleaning time and labour cost.

As the product hampers organic residues from settling in the sand, this will also reduce the associated smells.

Continued use of the product over time will provide better results.
