To remove limescale from heat exchangers, condensers and chillers we recommend chemical treatment using Envirofluid’s range of Worksafe descalers. The Triple7 range is a formulation of surfactants and other Worksafe chemicals that will not harm equipment or endanger workers.
In contrast to most harsh and dangerous limescale removers Triple7 descalers does not contain dangerous chemicals. Instead they utilise natural acids combined with high tech non-toxic surfactants for performance that is superior to highly dangerous products such as Hydrochloric Acid.
Step By Step Guide: Removing Limescale from Heat Exchangers, Condensers & Chillers
Safety Precautions
Triple7 descalers have a low corrosion, non-toxic formula. In rare cases, however, they can cause mild irritation, particularly if prolonged contact with the product occurs. Gloves and protective glasses are recommended.
Step 1: Isolate Equipment
Disconnect and/or isolate the equipment to be descaled. If conductivity or other sensors are installed check maintenance guidelines and remove if required.
Step 2: Set up Circulation System
In order for Triple7 descaling products to work effectively they must be circulated through the equipment. This may be achieved through pumping machinery already connected to the system or through a pump specifically connected for the purposes of scale removal.
Step 3: Product Dilution
Make up a solution of any of the Triple7 descaling products with water, with the dilution level dependant on the cleaning application. Ensure you have more than sufficient solution to fill the system and circulate through equipment, including any pumps and pipes.
Step 4: Circulate and Monitor
Circulate for 8 to 16 hours to remove calcium and scale while monitoring pH levels. pH can be monitored easily with test strips. If pH rises above 3 add more undiluted product to bring pH down.
If excessive foam becomes an issue, Triple7 Antifoam can be added at 1ml per litre of Triple7 descalers.
If flow drops during descaling check any filters as scale deposits may come free during the process and cause blockages.
Step 5: Flush & Dispose
Drain descaling solution directly into sewer or waste water system. Flush entire system with fresh water until pH is above 6.
Step 6: Re-Connect & Test
Re-connect system including any sensors and test for normal operations.
