How Triple7 enabled Rio Tinto to reduce cleaning downtime
Envirofluid was able to provide Rio Tinto with a worksafe organic descaler blend which was guaranteed to not erode metal surfaces or create waste water treatment issues.
The low risk acid blend especially designed with human safety in mind meant that minimal safety equipment was utilised and provided reduced effort in the preparation of a Safe Work Method Statement (SWIM).
Rio Tinto were able to complete the tower limescale cleaning operation within a 24 hour period without dismantling any item on the system. The wastewater flush was able to be drained to their Turkey Nest dam for use as a road dust suppressant without further treatment.

Rio Tinto have three cooling towers that service their gas turbine generators and experienced significant internal scaling of cooling tower pipework and pumpsets. The scale developed threatened the successful performance of the cooling towers in providing sufficiently conditioned water to service their power plant.
With downtime cost significantly impacting on profitability, Rio Tinto needed this clean conducted within a short timeframe whilst needing to consider the requirement for products that would not harm the integrity of the cooling tower or worker safety.
Traditionally a limescale clean would be undertaken with a Hydrochloric based descaler that would both be corrosive to equipment surfaces and expose workers to possible health risks.
The Solution : Triple7 Enviroscale Plus
Envirofluid was able to provide out of its standard Triple7 products an organic acid blend – Triple7 Enviroscale Plus, which was guaranteed to not erode metal surfaces or create waste water treatment issues. They achieved the descaling without dismantling any item on the system and the wastewater flush was able to be used as a road dust suppressant without further treatment.
